Coastal

APPROX TOTAL OF 160" WIDE, 90" TALL

Custom, Canada Border Services Agency at YVR.

The team wished for a piece that would be reflective of their home-base; a beautiful snapshot representing coastal British Columbia, inclusive of the CBSA title, a plane to highlight their district (Vancouver International Airport) and the CBSA badge to honour the agency.

To decide the best viewpoint, I hiked to several locations, capturing original images to use as our reference. The final image chosen is looking down into Howe Sound and includes a view of Bowen Island, Gambier Island, and the classic coastal Sea to Sky Highway.

We wanted the title and badge present, but to not take total focus. To achieve this, I painted the lettering to appear embossed over the mural.

Though I hand-plotted a grid for the image and lettering, the whole piece was done freehand (non-digitally)- a fun challenge brought on by space constraints. The mural took a total of approximately 15 days to complete & was a pleasure to do!
