This installation was a great collaboration, graciously initiated by June Chow, co-founder of Youth Collab for Chinatown. We met June during our first mini installation several months prior, which sparked an idea to create something alike but on a much grander scale, to ring in another year of Pride in Chinatown MMXX.
"I was raised to know that all people were created around the premise of love: to be loved and to love others. This brings me to deeply believe that as much as hate persists, it never has the final say.
In June, a small team joined me in outwardly expressing this by creating a flower installation at the Millenium Gate, as an act of "joyful resistance" against the repeated racist vandalism and attacks that had been occuring toward the Chinese community.
With much humilty and honour, we express this same love tenfold, to the queer pan-Asian community. In all things, love will always prevail."
A huge thank you to the YCC team, June and Doris of YCC, and Avi, Celina, and Benton, for all your hands-on support! This project was sponsored by Paul Wong Projects and The Flower Factory.
